Group exhibition at Punkt Ø, Galleri F15, Moss, Norway | April 12th - June 15th, 2014
Gallery F15 has arranged the arts and crafts exhibition Tendenser since 1971. Tendenser 2014- Story Art, examines visual stories within the arts field. Abstract, figurative and referencing stories.
The artworks are curated based on their individual stories of which the artists wish to convey. Oral and visual storytelling has a longstanding tradition in our society, although more often represented in illiterate societies. That is not to say that visual stories are irrelevant in our time and society. They are not as religiously motivated today, but still as poignant. Visual stories engage us differently than the written ones, simply because they are the opposite. Written stories visualize abstract images in our minds, whilst oral, specific art presents itself in front of us and we have to make up the story ourselves.
Heidi Bjørgan participated with 4 works featuring Linda Sormin. Canadian Linda Sormin created attention with her extensive installation at the international Ceramics exhibition, Ting Tang Trash, at Kode 1( Museum of Arts Bergen) in fall 2011. During the disassembly of the installation, parts of the work ended up at Ceramics collegues in Bergen. One of them was the curator of the exhibition, Heidi Bjørgan, who later reused some of the materials for a series of new works. An artistic dialogue was established between Bjørgan and Sormin, at the same time the theme of recycling and processing of already established works were being pushed forward. The vase shape is based on a casting of a plastic lamp shade found by Bjørgan in a container years earlier. The top which might illustrate an abstracted bouqet is made out of recycled bits from Sormins work. The top part has later been glazed by Bjørgan to give the object a comprehensive mark. The contrast between the artists individual expressions is still maintained in the new work.
